Daniel’s 5K Mission Statement
Daniel’s 5K is an event to honor the memory of Daniel Myslivecek, a student at Churchville-Chili High School who passed away on July 12th, 2006 after battling melanoma for almost three years. The proceeds from this years race will towards the Matthews Hope project. Matt St. James was a former Cross-Country and track and field athlete who currently owns the Churchville-Chili mile record(4:23) and made two state meet appearances during his time at Churchville-Chili (1 cross country, 1 outdoor track). He later went on to attend Roberts Wesleyan College. During his senior year on March 14th, 2007, he collapsed while doing a track workout. He was quickly resuscitated but suffered severe brain damage and has been living at Monroe Community Hospital ever since the incident. This project is designed to help redesign the St. James home so Matthew can finally come home.
The race will begin at 9:30 am on Sunday, April 11th, at Fairbanks Road Elementary School. The race will start in front of the stadium, head out onto Fairbanks Road north, head west on Westside drive and then turn around and head back to the Churchville-Chili school grounds where the race will finish inside the Churchville-Chili Varsity Stadium. The race is organized by Joe McMahon, Dan Giblin, and Greg Selke, a graduate of Churchville-Chili High School, and the Myslivecek Family. We welcome the serious runners, walkers, volunteers, spectators and all who want to have a good time! Please consider joining us in celebrating Abigal’s recovery and honor the memory of Daniel.
